The SANI SOLAR merges all 5 steps of the sustainable sanitation chain in one single on-site facility. The system works without water, electricity or chemicals, so it can be run easily and safely by the user himself.
More than 95% of mass reduction
SANI SOLAR has been developed for the decentralized use in rural areas of warm and dry regions. The innovative concept allows a mass reduction by drying and a stabilization of feces, taking advantage of the climatic conditions. In comparison with conventional on-site sanitation systems, SANI SOLAR reduces the amount of feces from about (1,320 LB) 600 kg per person and year to about (36 LB) 25 kg, of which some (20 LB) 9 kg can be used as a valuable and hygienically safe fertilizer.
Conventional water or compost toilets
The operation of conventional water or compost toilets leads to considerable amounts of waste or residues, apart from the consumption of the corresponding resources.
The treatment of the feces operated by the SANI SOLAR technology does not only prevent pollution of the environment, but also the dissemination of diseases by flies, as those vectors cannot reach the feces within the system.
The sustainable operation of SANI SOLAR has no need for any additional aids, the system does not require maintenance or technical service.

Where to use SANI SOLAR?
Our system is suitable as decentralized sanitation facility for all rural areas with warm arid or semi-arid climate. For best performance SANI SOLAR requires:

How does it work?
At the moment of use, urine and feces are automatically separated by the urine-diverting user interface. Feces fall into one of four containers, which are installed, on a turntable located in the drying chamber located below the toilet seat. Before leaving the toilet cabin, the user positions another container by moving the turntable with the help of the lever, placed in the cabin. The feces in the containers are quickly dried and stabilized by the combination of directional airflow and solar radiation in the drying chamber.
Considering daily use by 5 persons, the 4 fecal containers should be emptied every 5-month only. This measure can be realized easily and hygienically safe by one single person without any special equipment. The disposal of the dried and stabilized residue does not generate a negative environmental impact. The urine is conducted out of the cabin into the external drying unit where it is converted into a stable, high-quality plant fertilizer. This fertilizer is recovered by the user with the help of a spatula.
Why SANI SOLAR makes the difference?
1,320 LB (600 kg) of human excreta are naturally converted into 36 LB (16 kg) of dried and stabilized residue and about 20 LB (9 kg) of plant fertilizer. All this without one drop of water, no electrical energy and no operational costs.
For the successful implementation of sanitation projects in rural areas the logistics are of crucial importance. The manufactured product is based on the LEGO principle, allowing an installation without failures.
In only 3 hours a SANI SOLAR system can be mounted ready for use by no more than 2 persons. All system components are being delivered to the final destination on a pallet. 16 pallets can be transported by a truck or inside a 40” sea container.
Thanks to this conception SANI SOLAR can be installed ten times quicker than conventional equipment.
